Frequently Asked Questions
Compared to a traditional sauna where the heat is quite humid and your body is encouraged to sweat through the build-up of steam and hot air. An infrared sauna is much drier so you can typically last longer than you normally would.
Instead of heating the air around you like a traditional sauna, an infrared sauna uses infrared heat lamps where light is transmitted to penetrate deep below the skin’s surface.
This directly raises your core temperature, stimulating your body’s metabolic response to eliminate the build-up of toxins found deeper within the body. Evoking more profound detoxification.
We do not allow children in our sauna. You must be at least 18 years old to use our sauna.
If you’re pregnant or think there is a chance you could be pregnant, unfortunately you are not permitted to use the infrared sauna due to the increased risk to the health of your baby.
IF YOU ANSWER YES TO ANY OF THE BELOW QUESTIONS UNFORTUNATELY YOU WILL NEED TO AVOID SAUNA USE:
-
Are you pregnant? If you’re pregnant or think there is a chance you could be pregnant, you are not permitted to use the infrared sauna due to the increased risk to the health of your baby.
-
Have recently suffered a heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure or other cardiovascular problems? Sauna use is not recommended for people with the following conditions: unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction (30 days) and severe aortic stenosis.
-
Are under 18 years old? Children are not permitted in the sauna.
-
Do you have a heart pacemaker, or any other battery operated or electrical implant?
-
Do you regularly use drugs or steroids?
-
Do you suffer from haemophilia/any bleeding disorders, lupus or brain tumours?
-
Do you have a fever, infection or recent (within 48 hours) injury? Cold/flu symptoms, including fever. An individual that has a fever should not use the sauna. -
Do you have a communicable disease?
Technically, it’s a 2 person sauna, however we recommend it for just one person.
Why? There are a few reasons...
-
We’ve found it may be a little tight for 2 people, and we don’t want your experience to be diminished in any way
-
All infrared rays will be focused on you, making the heat and infrared energy delivery more targeted and effective
-
We’ve tried to create a relaxing and unique space, where the focus is YOU! It’s your time to treat yourself and enjoy that 30 or 45 minutes purely to yourself
However, we are open to it being used as a 2 person sauna, so if this is something that interests you, please send us a message to discuss further!
We don't have showers available on site. If possible, showering before your session will help you "sweat clean". We provide makeup wipes and a face washer to remove topical products if it's not possible to shower before you session.
Yes, we offer a completely private & contactless experience. We are on-site during your session but you will not see or hear from us unless you require assistance (use the bell in the room).
Please park in our driveway (under the carport if you wish). This is reserved for customers only and we allow enough time in between bookings that you will not be in anyone’s way. It also provides easy and private access to the studio.
Follow the brick path on the right side of the driveway to the colourbond gate and enter through there. Please close the gate behind yourself.
Enter the studio through the white door and lock the door behind yourself using the silver lock on the inside of the door.
When leaving, simply shut the door behind yourself and push in where the keyhole is on the gate to exit.
Full disclosure...our studio is attached to our house, however, it’s a completely separate entrance so you will not see or hear from us at all during your session (unless you need assistance).
We are in a residential area though, so unfortunately we can’t control neighbourhood noises (the odd lawnmower, dog, traffic etc). But rest assured you won’t hear any noise from our house.
Play your music or podcast as loud as you like or get lost in your book and the outside world won’t bother you!
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
We can’t stress this enough. To get the most out of your session it’s important that you are properly hydrated before your session. We recommend you try and drink at least 1 litre more than you normally would on any given day. You’re going to sweat a lot so hydration is key.
Avoid coffee and alcohol
It’s best to avoid caffeine right before a session and absolutely no alcohol. Having a sauna when you are hungover is not advised as you will already be dehydrated.
Remove topical creams and makeup
We understand that it’s not always possible to shower beforehand (and we don’t have one on-site), so we provide makeup wipes and a warm towel for you to cleanse before you enter the sauna. The less products on your skin, the better the sweat!
Eat light
It’s best to avoid heavy, oily food both before and after a session. Eat a couple of hours before your session if possible. This will allow you to properly digest your food.
Complete your waiver
For your first session, you will need to complete a waiver form which is emailed to you. It’s all online, just read through, make sure you don’t have any medical conditions that aren’t advised for sauna use, sign away and you’re good to go! It only needs to completed for your first visit and is kept on file for all return visits.
Underwear/swimwear
Is a must - no nudity please!
1 towel to sit on
Please place your towel over the mat on the sauna bench
Water Bottle
Hydration is key! We recommend at least 1 litre during your sauna
Book, kindle, podcast, music
You can take your phone in the sauna or feel free to connect to the Bluetooth speaker. Listen as loud as you want, you won’t be bothering anyone! Alternatively, just sit back, relax and enjoy the music we have on in the room
Comfy clothes to wear home
It’s a bit of a mission trying to get leggings on after a session!
Don’t stress...
Just grab one of ours!
We always provide you with a small towel to use in the sauna to soak up all the sweat but help yourself to a soft, fluffy towel from our cabinet to sit on.
A water jug and glasses are available in the room for all your hydration needs. You will also find 500ml of cold, filtered water waiting for you in the sauna.
The sauna will be pre-heated to 50°C when you enter.
As your session progresses, you can adjust the temperature up or down using the arrows on the LCD screen. You may worry if you don’t start sweating straight away. This is completely normal. It usually takes around 10-15 minutes to start sweating so don’t be tempted to adjust the temperature too high to begin with.
For our sauna, the optimal sauna experience occurs between 38-55°C, these lower temperatures stimulate an oil sweat which eliminates toxins stored in fat, as opposed to high temperatures which encourage a water sweat. The sauna has a max temp of 65°C but we would never recommending having it this high.
If this is your first time having an infrared sauna you may find that you don’t sweat much at all. Don’t worry after a few sessions, you won’t be able to stop sweating. The more open your detox pathways, the more you will sweat!
To regulate the internal ambient temperature if you get too hot, open the door an inch or two to let some air in.
The LCD screen allows you to adjust the settings to your liking from inside the sauna as your session progresses.
-
Light - use to turn the sauna light on or off. If you have the chromotherapy light on we suggest leaving the sauna light off as it will affect the colour.
-
Temperature - Will be preheated to 50°C when you enter. Use the + or - buttons to control the temperature of the sauna. It may take a few sessions to find your ideal temperature. The max is 65°C but we do not suggest going higher than 55°C unless you are a regular sauna user.

Chromotherapy, also called colour light therapy, is the process of restoring balance to the body by applying colour. Many people use chromotherapy lights in an infrared sauna to achieve the wellness benefits of colour light therapy.
Chromotherapy relies on the premise that each colour is associated with a different bodily response. For example, red is typically associated with stimulation, while blue is considered a mentally relaxing color.
The Chromotherapy is fully operated by the remote control only. Aim the remote directly at the LED light panel on the ceiling of the sauna as you select the various options, including powering it on and off. It’s best to ensure you don’t have the sauna light on at the same time as using the Chromotherapy.

Please use your towel to dry off on the floorboards directly outside the sauna before moving around to the rest of the room.
Remove towels and backrest from the sauna
For hygiene reasons, please remove all our towels/mats from the sauna and place in the laundry basket. Please leave the backrest next to the laundry basket.
Rehydrate
It’s important to rehydrate immediately following your session. You would have experienced an intense period of dehydration so it’s important you let your body cool down and drink some water. You will find cold, filtered water in the room and we also provide you with a glass of cold coconut water to help with hydration post sauna.
To shower on not to shower
When you finish your sauna session, it is important to relax and cool down while your body continues to perspire. We suggest not showering straight away as it’s possible that you may continue sweating for up to 30 minutes to 1 hour post sauna. We provide a cold face towel in the room for you to freshen up with after your sauna.
Sit back with your coconut water and cold towel and enjoy those relaxing post sauna feels! We automatically add an extra 10 minutes to your booking time, so you don’t need to feel rushed to pack up and leave straight away.
Hygiene is our thing!
The good news is infrared heat kills 99% of bacteria for a naturally sterile environment. But we go further and have a few steps in place to ensure our sauna remains hygienic and clean at all times:
-
We thoroughly protect our sauna bench and floor to ensure that no sweat gets through with bathmats, which are washed after each session. We ask that you place your towel on top of the bench mat for an extra layer of protection
-
Our entire sauna is made from 100% FSC Certified premium grade Canadian Hemlock wood which has good sweat stain resistance
-
The wood on our bench and floor are protected with beeswax to repel any sweat that may touch them
-
Our backrests are interchanged and thoroughly cleaned and sanitised between sessions
-
All surfaces are cleaned and sanitised after each session with a non-tox cleaner (we use Koala Eco)
-
All cups/water glasses etc are changed out after each session
